Bitumen, also known as asphalt is a sticky, black, highly viscous liquid or semi-solid form of petroleum. Bitumen is the heaviest material obtained from the fractional distillation process of crude oil. Crude petroleum is a mixture of hydrocarbons of different molecular weights.
In the petroleum refineries the individual components like LPG, naphtha, Kerosene, Diesel etc. are separated through the process of fractional distillation. The heaviest material obtained from the fractional distillation process is further treated and blended to make different grades of paving grade bitumen. It is Black or Brown in colour and possesses waterproofing & adhesive properties.
The primary use (70%) of bitumen is in road construction, where it is used as the glue or binder mixed with aggregate particles to create asphalt concrete.
Exotron Thermal sources Bitumen from Qatar, Oman, Saudi Arabia, and Russia.
